Xavier University President Norman Francis has been honored by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education with a grant for students based on need and achievement that bears his name. The organization created the Francis Fellows Award in collaboration with AT&T.

The first recipients of the $5,000 fellowships were two Xavier students: Corey Arnold of Houston and Cristal Wright of Zachary.

The fellowships were created to honor Francis’ commitment to minority education and community service. He has led Xavier, the nation’s only historically black Catholic university, for 44 years.
